Pinjarra Makes Shaky International Debut

Pinjarra took on representatives from the India Pistons team today in hot conditions, playing it's first ever international match. With some of the top order not available, the Pinjarra boys were given a cricketing lesson.

The wicket looked more like the clay court of a French Open final and proved very flat for pace bowlers but turned at right angles. The outfield was lightning fast. Weather was high 30's, sunny and humid.

Batting first, India Pistons got off to a flying start. Chennai T20 player Deverindiran asserted his authority early, putting Mark Hennessy back over his head for 6 on just his second ball.

Deverindiran went on to make a punishing 82 off only 36 balls, eventually being dismissed in the 12th over, with Jon Liddelow claiming the first wicket for Pinjarra on foreign soil, caught behind. Fellow opener Gopinath made a a solid 71 off only 67 balls before he holed out to deep mid wicket.

The highlight for Pinjarra was Mark Hennessy in his second spell, dismissing Iabarak caught and
bowled and then clean bowling Xavier first ball middle stump. But the hat-trick wasn't to be and Suresh Babu finished on 59 n.o. to help the Pistons to 5 for 265 after their 30 overs. Danny Turner 0 for 22 off 4 and John Mckay 0 for 26 off 4 were the only bowlers to avoid punishment. Hennessy 5-0-51-2, Brett Riley 6-0-57-1, Jon Liddelow 3-0-36-1, Hallyburton 5-0-37-0 and Shane Turner 3-0-29-0.

Mick Ford and Ozay Davidson opened the batting and looked settled against the pace bowling, putting together a tidy stand of 18 off the first 6 overs. But the introduction of spin ominously saw Davidson dismissed immediately for 5. Leg spinner Ashwin had them going both ways and together with Prabhu and Kiranprasad were a totally new experience for the Pinjarra boys.
Miller made only 1 off 16 balls before attempting a pull shot to one which kept low and was out LBW, the only wicket to fall to pace bowling.

Ford succumbed to Ashwins spin for 8 and the boys were in trouble at 3 for 30. Hennessy and Liddelow managed a few boundaries and were managing to build a partnership. However the spin bowling was a class well above what Pinjarra have ever seen.

After reaching 3 for 61 the last 7 wickets fell for only 7 runs. Ducks to Shane Turner, Danny Turner, Billy Miles and Brad Hallyburton meant the fines coffers were well boosted after the game. Brett Riley managed a few singles as did Ben Burley who finished not out. Spinner Prabhu finished with remarkable figures of 4 for 2 off 2.3 overs. Piranprasad took 3 for 4 and Ashwin 2 for 21.

The day was a great experience with nerves now behind us, and some badly needed match practice gained, with that being the first game for most of us for 3 to 4 months. A privilege to play against such talented cricketers and to experience very different cricketing conditions. We now look forward to an improved performance for tomorrows match.

India Pistons 5 for 265 def Pinjarra 68 all out.
